How to recall a thought / memory you forgot? (Topic to share ideas)

I have had problems with memory last couple of years. There have been ideas to improve memory but how can people recall a thought or memory they recently lost. About an 2 hours ago I had a thought about something I had to do but a minute after I thought about it I forgot before writing it down. I spent about an hour trying to recall my thoughts.

My memory recall system works only 25%.

I start off by thinking about things I was thinking about in the last 5-10 minutes before I forgot to try and get back to the memory I forgot. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

Next I walk around my environment to look at things that may bring the memory back but I don't really like doing this because if I find something more interesting I won't be able to get back to what I was doing.

The next thing I do is play a couple of games of 20q (http://www.20q.net) but without a specific something in mind to try and recall something from the questions it asks, maybe there is a better game for recalling memories?

Lastly I go through categories of words and pick out categories I think I was thinking about to try and remember my lost thoughts, example: http://www.manythings.org/vocabulary/lists/c/

Maybe other forgetful people can try the things I do above when they forget something and see if you get your memory back because if it doesn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for you.

Since what I do doesn't work more then 25% of the time, it becomes a awful waste of time, I am looking for a other systems other use. Let's share ideas.
